In Case You’re Wondering…

  • Coaching is a one-to-one relationship where you receive support with your personal and/or professional goals. It is a non-hierarchical ‘safe space’ in which you can freely discuss your feelings, thoughts, hopes and challenges, and where you can receive practical guidance, strategies, insight and accountability.

  • A coach — more traditionally known as a ‘teacher’ or ‘mentor’ — provides guidance, resources and support in a safe and supportive setting. Imagine a wise, calm and encouraging friend who always has the time, energy and interest to listen attentively without judgement. Unlike friendship, the space is fully yours to use: I am here to hold the space for you, and to provide tools, insight, witnessing and accountability to assist you with your goals.

  • I have a person-centred approach that prioritises your needs, challenges, goals and preferred style of learning. Each session and the overall strategy that informs our work is individually tailored to you; I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all model of coaching.

    My overall goal is to help you increase your self-awareness and ability to live life in line with your values — essentially, to help you come into better relationship with yourself. This then helps you to develop the skills, tools and insight to achieve your goals — whatever they are!

    Practically, our sessions will be used to help deepen your understanding of your goals, values, beliefs and behaviours; from this we can then better understand the challenges you face and how we can help you move through them. To accomplish this, I draw on techniques from body-based (somatic) practices, zen mindfulness, and trauma- and neurodivergent-informed cognitive and emotional regulation strategies. A large part of this work is unlearning: undoing our limiting self-beliefs — creating a ‘blank slate’ of ourselves — and rewriting our understanding of what is possible.

    Each person’s journey is unique – I am also a ‘blank slate’ in that I do not have any preconceived notions of what shape your path will take. It is our work, as a team, to discover it together and to help you develop the tools you need along the way.

    I bring myself fully to this work with you — I draw on my 12 years’ experience as a coach, as well as my training, teachers and personal experience.

  • ‘Blank slate’ refers to the space we create in our coaching relationship.

    We are often defined by our roles — parent, child, friend, partner, boss, employee — and rarely get to just be ourselves. Sometimes we over-identify with those roles to the point that we’re not even sure who we are outside them anymore. Sometimes we have never even considered what it would mean to be defined by our values instead of who we are to other people.

    ‘Blank slate’ refers to the fact that my only 'stake' in the relationship is to help facilitate your growth: it is a place where you are free from all your roles and simply get to be yourself. It is a ‘blank slate’ where you can express yourself fully and freely, and where what you say stays within the space we share.

    ‘Blank slate’ also refers to my coaching philosophy. (See above.)

  • Personal growth coaching (also known as personal development coaching) facilitates self-awareness and emotional regulation. The terms healing, spiritual growth, mindfulness and emotional intelligence could also be used to describe the focus of this work. While the process itself can take different forms, the overarching goal is to help you find balance, meaning and fulfilment in your life — to help you to come into better relationship with yourself, and through this into better relationship with others.

  • Challenges relating to productivity often originate in areas related to personal growth. Procrastination, and difficulty initiating or completing tasks, for example, are often linked to anxiety, perfectionism, and/or unmanaged ADHD. Burn-out and overwhelm often result from unsustainable work/personal boundaries, neurodivergent masking, and/or achievement/busyness masking feelings of low self-worth. Chronic stress, low mood, and neglect of physical health can manifest as low motivation and difficulty concentrating. While addressing productivity is not necessary for personal growth coaching, it is often issues with productivity that lead individuals to seek coaching.

  • Curiosity is the only prerequisite for coaching. I meet you where you’re at — you do not need to have done any ‘work’ in this space before to have a successful relationship with me as your coach. You also do not need to have any predefined goals — many people come to me to work out what their goals are.

    Unmanaged addictions, unprocessed trauma, and severe mental health challenges are often best first addressed in counselling, although coaching can often work well in conjunction.
